The 1st XV have been withdrawn from the Hampshire Cup competition and will not play their scheduled quarter final tie against Havant at Hooks Lane this Saturday writes Brian Seeney.

The decision was taken following discussions between Head Coach Barry Bridgman, Chairman Alan Foulger and Secretary Joe Cloke after last night's training session.

Both Havant and the Hampshire RFU were told that Gos are "unable to provide a competent front row".

I understand the choice of whether to play or pull out of the game was made by Bridgman and "fully supported" by the two club officials.

There are currently around 14 injured players who would not be available to play this Saturday and only one fit prop forward with any 1st XV experience to call on.

Havant were informed last night and their Director of Rugby Rob Matthews said he "fully understands" the decision.

It means the only game involving a Gosport & Fareham side this weekend is the John Sneezum Hampshire Vets Cup tie against Trojans Vets at Gosport Park (kick off 2.30pm).
