Gosport & Fareham 1st XV captain Wes Dugan, his centre brother Wayne and hooker Tim Snowden helped Hampshire to the perfect start in the opening match of the Bill Beaumont County Championship to set up what promises to be a cracking game at Gosport Park this Saturday (13th May) at 3pm writes Brian Seeney.

Hampshire beating North Midlands 13-62 last Saturday at Dudley Kingswinford RFC in their first Division 2 South match of the campaign after winning the County Junior Cup at Twickenham a year ago.

It puts Hampshire in a strong position as their next two games are at home starting at Gosport Park against Somerset (3pm).

Then they play Warwickshire at Havant's Hook Lane ground a week late (20th May) at 3pm.

Skipper Dugan said: "It was really tough in the first 20 minutes and I thought we were going to be up against it then we scored and suddenly we seemed to run away with it."
