When the Hampshire County RFU annual meeting was staged at our Clubhouse, Gosport & Fareham Colt Taione (Ty) Naivalulevu was presented with the Brian Short Memorial Trophy.

Brian Short, former County President, was an enthusiastic supporter of County youth rugby and wanted an annual award to go to a young Hampshire player who "epitomised the spirit of Hampshire rugby: not necessarily the best player but one who put in the effort and was a team player".

Ty was the youngest member of the Hampshire County Under 18 Squad last season, playing in all four matches.

"Although his first position was fly half he became a key team member who would step in as centre, full-back or wing whenever called upon to do so. He played with increasing confidence as the season progressed and was fearless in defence. In his manner and approach to the game, on and off the pitch, Ty represented the best in rugby and was a fine ambassador for his club, college and of course the County," said County President Ian Kerr who presented a Trophy and Tankard to Ty.
