On a blustery day, Gosport & Fareham Under 14s (the Saxons) played near neighbours Fareham Heathens for the second time this season with the Saxons winning 50-15.

Due to the unavailability of players from both sides it was agreed by the coaching teams to play two 20 minute halves of 12 a side with six forwards and six backs.

The first half was extremely close with both teams scoring tries and the extreme wind causing a problem for both teams’ kickers, although this was not helped by the fact that the tries were scored wide out making it almost impossible for successful conversions. At half time the Saxons lead 22-15.

In the second half the Saxons forwards began to outmuscle their Heathens counterparts and began to drive them back off their own ball providing good clean ball for the scrum halves.

The Saxons pulled away with backs and forwards scoring tries, with some good support play throughout, encouraging rucking and strong scrummaging backed up by some good handling.

Meanwhile, in a match with uncontested scrums at the request of visitors Wimborne, Gosport & Fareham Under 15s (the Ravens) thrived off the stable platform and comfortably won the match 55-12.

The Ravens took just four minutes to score when for Tom Ellis ran in the first try that Harry Rabjohn converted.

Ravens then set about building a phased attack from their solid defence and tries soon came from Aidan Jarvis, Ben Wheeler and Euan Archbold with only one conversion missed from three by Aidan Jarvis for a half time lead of 26 - 0.

The half time talk and a couple of changes for Wimborne seemed to work as they came out firing from the kick-off and within 10 minutes scored their first try.

Harry Rabjohn steadied the Ravens with a brace of tries and Archbold added his second. Then Tom Archer ran one in from his own half and Jarvis kicked three from four to establish Ravens on 52 – 5 and take his game tally to 15 points.

Wimborne never gave up and deservedly had the last word with a well scored try and excellent conversion to close the game at 52 - 12 with Archbold (pictured below with ballo in hand) the player of the match.
